Experience Design: Designing for Today’s Driving Experience

Automotive Experience Design by Jhay Davis

As our in-car experiences become more digitally connected, vehicle interface design has entered a new age of transformation. Surfacing helpful, useful, and context relevant information to drivers but without creating dangerous distractions has the interest of experience designers the world over. And while the safety mechanism ushered in by semi-autonomous driving aids can help mitigate instances when the driver’s attention might be divided, minimizing the time looking at a car screen remains an important consideration.

Google has published Design for Driving as a way to introduce key principles in this space. As more vehicles support  Android Auto, Google is playing an active role in promoting concepts that reflect a difference between the mobile experience and the automobile driving experience.
